Iaomai Advantage Virtual Saturdays

Literacy Foundations for High School Success
Coming Soon - Pilot Begins February 14, 2026

Iaomai Advantage Virtual Saturdays is a closed-cohort, 3-hour online program (twice per month on Saturdays) designed specifically for grade 9 students (~ages 14-15) who need to strengthen foundational reading comprehension, analytical writing, grammar and sentence creation, and effective note-taking skills. This program helps bridge gaps so students can thrive in high school courses and prepare confidently for college-level work.

We combine Quill with Essentials in Writing (EIW Level 9) for structured essay, research, and composition guidance. Students also receive brief academic coaching during the Group Coaching and Flex Block each session. Parents receive a one-time 20-minute conference to discuss their child's progress. The result is deep text analysis, strong thesis and evidence integration, adaptable note-taking, and precise expression, all in a supportive, small-group environment with targeted coaching support.

Why Grade 9?

The transition into high school is one of the most academically demanding and emotionally challenging periods for students. Expectations increase quickly, but skill instruction often does not keep pace. Many freshmen face a sudden jump in reading complexity, writing demands, and the need for effective note-taking without adequate foundational support from prior years.

This program exists to bridge that exact gap. By focusing on grade 9, we provide targeted, restorative literacy instruction at the precise moment when students need it most. Early support in comprehension, analytical writing, grammar precision, and note-taking builds confidence and skills that carry through the rest of high school and into college or a career.

Program FAQ

1. Why a closed cohort?

A consistent group of students builds trust and comfort. This allows students to take risks in writing and discussion and receive tailored progression and coaching.

2. Can we join a cohort after the program begins?

New students can join the program within the first three meetings only to allow time for students to become comfortable with one another. After the first three meetings, interested families will need to join a waitlist and await the next cohort.

3. What does the brief academic coaching include?

Each session features a dedicated Group Coaching & Flex Block with coach-led mini-lessons (e.g., note-taking strategies, time management, self-advocacy) and structured flex time for personalized feedback, spotlighting student work, answering questions, and applying skills to current school assignments.

4. What is the one-time parent conference?

Parents receive a single 20-minute conference (scheduled at a convenient time) to discuss their child's progress, strengths, areas of growth, and recommendations for continued support.

5. What if we miss a session?

The session will be recorded and forwarded to the student(s). Attendance is encouraged for cohort benefits and coaching interactions.

6. How much outside work must my child complete?

The program is designed to be restorative, so students will have the option to complete light assignments of no more than 10-20 minutes.

7. Is this for struggling or advanced students?

This program is best for those with foundational gaps in comprehension, writing, or note-taking needed to take higher level high school courses as well as those preparing to go to college. This description may include students who have ADHD, anxiety, diagnosed learning differences, and show signs of being advanced or gifted.

8. What are the technical requirements?

Computer or tablet with camera and microphone, internet, email address and Google account for Google Classroom access, a free Quill account (created in Session 1), and Zoom. Students may decide whether to turn on their cameras during sessions.
